When
I moved to Davis in July of 1999, my daughter was six months old.
In order to settle into the community, I needed a referral for a pediatrician,
and
was searching for information on toddler classes we could take. I was
also, trying
to discover
all the parks, bike paths and recreational facilities, and wanted to
meet
other mothers, with children of the same age.
By participating in the the Moms Together Group (sponsored by city of
Davis)
I was able to get some of the information I needed, mostly by talking
to other
parents. Sometimes
I would find out about a class or a nursery school program
by chance and just in the nick of time for registrations. It seemed
that, there was
much pertinent information I didn't know about. What I learned was mostly,
by word of mouth.
I thought, it would be great to be able to log onto the web and look
up a
list of daycares in Davis, exchange information with other moms about
local
playgroup locations, buy parenting books, or used baby
clothing and furniture - all while my daughter is taking her afternoon
nap!
That's how the idea for this web site was conceived.
Davis
is a wonderful community for raising children, with many involved and
informed parents and lots of great resources. I have been so impressed,
getting to know the mothers and the fathers in Davis, the level of commitment
to
their children is inspiring.
My
hope is that this site will serve as a resource guide - a central repository
for parenting information.
And also as a forum for parents to come together, and share information.
I will
do my best to keep the momscircle.com up to date and interesting.
Your input is crucial to this effort, and welcome. Please send feedback
and
suggestions on the site, and on any information that I may have missed.
And do use the bulletin board to talk to each other and exchange insight
and information.
